Thiopropamine or TPA is a new designer drug with stimulating properties, an analogue of Methiopropamine (MPA) and is its metabolite, and is very similar in effect on the body. Thiopropamine can be compared to methamphetamine, but this drug is structurally not similar to phenethylamine and aphetamine analogues. This drug is metabolized into active 4-hydroxy methiopropamine and thiophene S-oxide, propane-2-amines are not metabolized by monoamine oxidases and most of them actually behave as competitive monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Thiopropamine acts as a selective inhibitor of norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake, as has been tested on rodents.
