N-methyl-2-aminoindane or NM-2-AI is a stimulant drug of the aminoindane class, an N-methylated derivative of 2-aminoinde, an astructural analogue of 2-AI and MDAI. Similarly to amphetamine, which contains the terminal carbon R3 of the propane chain bound to a benzene ring, the result is a substance containing a benzene ring (indane) connected to a pentane ring. The difference of the 2-AI amino group is related to the R2 of the indane group and contains a methyl group connected to the amino group RN.
NM-2-AI increases the level of dopamine and norepinephrine accumulated in the brain, which leads to a stimulating property and a state of euphoria and its effect on the body can be compared with amphetamine drugs.
